Hi
I have been using Process Lasso (free) for ages and found it to be exellent and very usefiul. I am using XP Pro.
About 3 to 4 weeks ago it stopped working,
Even though Process Govenor and ProcessLassoManagementConsole are registered to start on startup they don't get loaded (not listed in Services) and clicking on the icons in the installed program location does not do anything.
I downladed the latest version (at the time v File Version 6.0.3.4) , uninstalled the old proram and installed the new version but is still is not working. Neither is the portable version.
Something seems to be preventing it from executing. I also had the same problem with Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Free Antivirus +.
I've checked my PC with an assortment of on line anti-virus scanners and my installed program (Kingsoft Antivirus as well as SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) and none indicate any viral activity or rootkits.
I am stumped as to what to do next and would be very grateful for any advice.
Thank you in advance.
I will using Process Monitor to check who kill the process.
Or which file is can't access, which will make the fail of the software startup. :)

....
I really recommend you that, uninstall it, using MSE/Avast! is better than it...
QuoteSUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
This is Kingsoft's another software main function, which is called "é‡'å±±å«å£«"(Kingsoft safeguard), not é‡'å±±æ¯'霸(Kingsoft Antivirus).
But both is weaker, when they coming to worldwide, as they only collect the virus/trojen/spyware/malware from China.
For example, the skype bitcoin malware, you can check yourself for how long Kingsoft need to collect it, and found out it is a malware. :)

11 days, when 36 / 45 anti-virus has been collected the malware data, can detect that malware.
Kingsoft still don't collect and start detect it... :P
I will say one true story for Kingsoft.
When the other China user installing other software that not related with anti-virus, they found Kingsoft Antivirus is silent installed on their computer.
And they can't uninstall it, for normal ways...
Hello!
I've been using Process Lasso for well over a year now on two different laptops. I have found that the program runs flawlessly on one laptop, but has stopped working properly on the second. I'm getting warning about the Core Engine not running. The settings for each installation are the same. I'm using version 6.5.0.20. Here is a screenshot explaining my issue:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/RaptorMoonX/process_lasso_error.png
I went into PL and found that "Start Process Lasso's Core Engine appears in the Main Menu. I tried clicking on that, but nothing happens. I checked task manager and found that Process Lasso is listed under Processes.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/RaptorMoonX/process_lasso_tm.png
I also have SuperANTISpyware and Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012 installed, but PL has never had an issue with these programs when running. I'm really confused as to why I can't start the core engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Nice wallpaper, another ACG fan here. ;)

Did you try Reinstall?
And try this, Main-Run Process Lasso with elevated rights.
And I think it might be some software kill the ProcessGovernor.exe, try check your ProcessLasso Logs and Anti-virus Logs. :)
PL was reinstalled on 31 May. I opened the log file and it says that Bootcamp.exe is affecting program performance. I am running a Macbook with Windows 7 Pro installed via Bootcamp. Not sure how to fix this as Bootcamp is a major component! This never happened with previous versions of the program.
Try adding Bootcamp.exe into Restrain Ignore List, which is right click on it, click on "Exclude from ProBalance Restrain"
It can be Bootcamp don't like any process that is playing with it and kill it. :)
But, did you try running the shortcut"Reset Process Lasso to Defaults" and reset it?
Are there multiple users on this laptop? If so, do they commonly log in simultaneously? Did you check the logs of your security software? How have you set the governor to run, as a service or normal process?
I am the only user on this laptop. I checked my antivirus logs and found nothing out of the ordinary. I checked both the Processes and Services running on the computer and only ProcessLasso.exe comes up (in processes). I can't even find Process Governor.
I'm not sure what to make of this at all. I've not seen similar problems. It's quite odd, and I don't know what might be the cause. Something is either blocking ProcessGovernor.exe from launching, or it is crashing immediately on launch (in which case you'd see a .DMP file in the %USERAPPDATA%\ProcessLasso folder). Neither case is anything I've had reported before.
Hi Ben
Thanks for your reply.
Have uninstalled Kingsoft Anti virus - have been having heaps of problems installing other antivirus programs. Anyway I now have MS Security Essentials going and it will do until I can sort out why the other don't want to install or run.
Back to Process Lasso.
In my XP Pro registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ProcessLasso I have these settings:
Default REG_SZ Value not set
CoreStart REG_DWORD Value= 2
CPUID2 REG_DWORD Value= 17
GUIStart REG_DWORD Value= 2
UpdateChecksEnabled REG_DWORD Value= 1
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ProcessLasso
Marker REG_DWORD Value= 4660
Can you please tell me if they are the default settings for the program.
Still can't work out why ProcessGovenor and Process Lasso management console are not listed in the Services list even though they are listed in Autoruns to run at start up. They are services, right?
Even the start-governor.bat fails to load the service.
Hi
That sounds similar to my problem:

I merged the topics. One is for Windows XP, the other is Windows 7.

Those application registry settings are fine, and not likely to have anything to do with the problem here. They control various other aspects of the software.

In Windows XP, they are set in the usual registry startup locations. If the governor is set to run as a service, then it is configured as a service and should be visible under 'Services'. Why autoruns isn't at least listing 'ProcessLassoManagementConsole', I don't know. Perhaps that is a symptom of the problem.
In Windows Vista and above, the Task Scheduler is used to start both, except when the governor is configured as a service, then only the GUI is tarted via the Task Scheduler.
If the core engine is not running when the GUI is launched, it tries to start it.
Are you both running the governor as a service or normal process? Any special configuration at all? I assume you tried resetting configuration to defaults? (at bottom of options menu in GUI)
I strongly suspect interference from a third-party application. Maybe security software. Maybe some startup control or optimization software. Something. I have not been able to reproduce any such trouble, and would surely have a lot more reports if it was a general bug of some sort.
I wonder if exporting the configuration settings from my laptop that has PL working and importing them to the laptop that doesn't have PL working properly would fix the problem? Anyone try this?

I don't has this issues so I can't try for it. ;D
But you can. ;)
Just remember to make a backup for the config first.
I doubt there anything in config that would affect startup but you can easy compare values between each system.
Ed is right. That's not going to help I'm afraid.
What you may have better luck doing is comparing what applications are installed on each...

From Windows, driver, Antivirus setting and version,....
This is what I do everytime. :)

The programs installed on each computer are the same save one or two that are required for my college degree). I do wonder, though if Trend Micro might be the culprit even though I can't find anything out of the ordinary. I don't use it on my other laptop (which is my everyday laptop), but the program is required to be run on this (the Macbook) due to school regulations. Ben, what are you referring to?

Did you crack your Explorer.exe for using unofficial support Theme?
And some software like MacType, which inject the DLL, it might be crashing the process too.
Did you also checked the %USERAPPDATA%\ProcessLasso to see there are any minidump or not?
For Trend Micro, I don't know much about it, but if you has some computer skill, try Process Monitor, it might giving you some clue. :)
Trend Micro could very well be the culprit! Security software so often is. That's one reason why I advocate for going with the 'basics' (the free, and now built-in, Windows Defender).
One thing that has changed in current betas is that I'm using a different code signing cert. This means that any whitelisting of the old one is lost. It's possible that the finals will behave differently from the betas due to this, if this is the issue, and if Trend is having problems because it doesn't recognize the code signing cert. I have had false positive issues with Trend before.
Maybe you somehow have the same problem I did, which I think is fixed:

Not likely, of course, but take a look.
