Title: Will ParkControl remember my latest changes
Post by: ming.ddtechcg on October 24, 2024, 10:20:50 AM
Hi,

Will ParkControl remember my changes/settings after rebooting my system?

I selected my power profile then clicked "Make Active", selected "Parking...." and clicked "Apply", clicked "Ok" to close ParkCrontol.

Thanks.

Yes, changes made by ParkControl will persist. If you find that settings are lost, then you may have some other energy management type software installed on the PC, perhaps from the OEM.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the reply.

Please review the screenshot from the link that provided:

I had "parking" as "off" with 100% and clicked "apply" and "okay" (I assumed that the my changes were save).

Rebooted my system, and clicked ParkControl from the system tray, the parking was turned "on" again with 4%.  I had tried few times of set parking off with 100% and reboots and the parking always stays "on" with 4%.

My system is Windows 11 Pro and i9-13900H

I have tried ParkControl on the different Windows 10 host (i7-11800H) with the same above settings with few reboots.  The parking always stays with off with 100%.

Any suggestion?

Thanks.

I believe the cause is the chipset drivers are resetting your core parking settings. This is known to occur on 13+ gen Intel mobile processors, though the behavior may vary by OEM.

That said, you can check your system for any other installed software that has anything to do with "Power", "Energy" or "Performance". If found, try uninstalling it and see if your changes then persist.

Most likely, you'll be relegated to changing this setting at every boot. We are considering a change to force persistence of these settings in these cases, but we must first do additional research to provide an appropriate disclaimer given that these settings are likely reverted for a reason, usually to reduce power consumption.

I do not have any special app that are related to these areas... But, I did disable the power service and it did not help.

If we have a checkbox for asking the user to have the enforcement or not at any boot, so it is up to the user's decision.

Thanks!!

Any update for the persistence of the user setting?

Another quick question:
When Parking option is on with 4%, does ParkControl figure it out? From regedit?

Thanks.

It actually retrieves that information by API, but it is stored in the registry so you could read/write it there too.

I'm sorry that no progress was made on saving and re-applying settings in these rare cases where something else is resetting them. It hasn't been a common concern since for most people they do persist, so it fell through the cracks as more pressing work was engaged in. I'll bump the ticket again at the least ;).

We've now added this feature as of ParkControl v5.4.0 BETA. To get on the beta channel, check menu item "Settings / Updates / Include Betas", then use menu item "Help / Check for Updates".

If you try it, let me know how it goes!
