Title: Process Lasso on Windows 11 23H2 with Hybrid CPUs – Affinity Still Needed?
Post by: lisadam on January 19, 2026, 08:36:38 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm currently using Process Lasso on Windows 11 23H2 with a hybrid CPU (P-cores + E-cores). I've noticed that Windows' native scheduler sometimes overrides or briefly ignores custom CPU affinity rules, especially for background apps.

In 2025, is it still recommended to manually set CPU affinity for specific processes, or is it better to rely mainly on ProBalance and priority rules with modern Windows scheduling? I'm aiming for long-term system responsiveness rather than benchmark gains.

Would love to hear how others are handling this setup. Thanks.

I would recommend using Efficiency Mode OFF rules first, then fallback to CPU affinity rules for specific processes that need such. In no case should the OS scheduler ever ignore a CPU affinity on a process, even briefly. However, system threads and interrupts can be serviced on other cores, as the CPU affinity will only apply to the target process(es).

Efficiency Mode OFF rules are a more gentle hint to the OS not to put this or that process on the E-cores. That often resolves responsiveness issues on these platforms at the cost of some energy efficiency.
