Title: Current Version/Auto-Updates
Post by: Koosharem on February 22, 2012, 07:46:27 PM
I received a "new version available" alert from CNET Download on 17Feb and again today (22Feb) for v5.1.0.49.  I have PL Pro set for auto-updates, so I waited for the program to update.  I have checked the System Tray icon for the last several days and it still shows "v5.1.0.48", and when I manually check for updates, the response is "you have the most current update".

So, is "Auto-Updating" (and the manual check-for-updates) working properly, and CNET Download is in error??   ???

Everything is working as planned. The change log lists the reason http://bitsum.com/changelog/pl/changes.htm#latest : v5.1.0.49 is the *same* as v5.1.0.48 in most all respects, and was issued almost solely because CNET had picked up the Server Edition for the x64 Home/Workstation Build. So, it was issued just to flush the system and make sure everything was where it was supposed to be. Sometimes I do this and see no reason to bother so many people if there are no changes. Besides, I always have a new minor version coming soon anyway ;)

Thank you for the clarification and for "looking out for us".  I'll check the Change Log in the future before "crying wolf"!    ;)

Please do always report things you see that seem wrong, because I rely on people doing so! Often times little issues will go unreported, and I had wished someone had told me.

Anyway, v5.1.0.50 is out now. CNET picked up the wrong 32-bit edition with this latest update, but the right 64-bit build (opposite from last time). Since they also grab snippets from the updates, I surmise it is a human mistake. It is too random to be anything else. For now, I can't link to them. My current plans are to just auto-download the correct edition of Process Lasso on install, as the 32-bit build does for the 64-bit build. However, I've got some work to do to get that accomplished.

Ah, thanks for the report. The auto-update on the portable edition was just recently re-enabled. I will have to adjust the code to resolve this. Thanks for letting me know. In the interim, you'll have to update it manually. It is not critical, but recommended to stay up to date. It is also recommended to install the regular edition of Process Lasso unless you have a specific need for the portable edition.

Late yesterday I made an announcement about the Portable Edition automated updates that was inaccurate, slightly. I'll be concise this time and simply say the issue was appropriately fixed in v5.1.0.52, and the *next* update should work fine.

Readers: Remember, the Portable Edition is for USB Keys, it has nothing to do with laptops or netbooks. The standard edition is appropriate for laptops and netbooks both.
