Title: Process Lasso shutsdown program when overloaded
Post by: Harry Karmel on February 03, 2019, 02:22:55 PM
Hi,
Just a quick question:I run X Plane 11, a very hardware intensive game and process lasso has really helped my performance. However when the hardware loading reaches close to max process lasso shutsdown/crashes the game after freezing for about 10secs. Presumably this is to keep the OS running smooth. I was wondering if there was a way to exclude particular applications from this "optimisation" while maintaining the performance boost from process lasso to prevent process lasso from crashing the game. This has taken months to diagnose the issue but I am finally sure that this is the root cause.
Thanks a lot

If the game itself is stalling and crashing, it most certainly not directly caused by Process Lasso, though it is possible that the more aggressive settings in the Bitsum Highest Performance power plan is causing your GPU or CPU to overheat. That should not occur on a properly built PC with adequate thermal control.

Is this an overclocked system by chance? Regardless, have you run sustained load stress testing?

Thanks for the reply. No I have not explicitly stress tested the PC nor is it overclocked. The CPU is water cooled and my Process Lasso mode is high performance, not the highest bitsum setting. I know multiple users use process lasso with X plane but for me, it doesn’t crash when process lasso isn’t open/core engine not running, but does when process lasso is running.

By default, PL Probalance doesn't restrain foreground processes so it should not affect the game in any way.
You could exclude the game and any children processes of the game but I don't think that will change anything.

You could check the crash log and maybe see what module it says.

There is nothing in Process Lasso that would, or really could, cause a game to crash like that.

If there is a correlation, it has to be related to the power plan.

The 'Performance Mode' of Process Lasso induces the 'Bitsum Highest Peformance' power plan. You can change it to not enter that power plan in 'Options / Performance Mode Settings'.

Be aware of the power plan you are in and try staying in 'Balanced'. I bet it doesn't happen then.

From your symptoms, it may the GPU overheating, so you may also want to watch temps.

Ahh ok, I’ll try those settings. Thanks so much for your help!
