Inverter firmware and ch341t

hi all,
my end goal is to access the firmware of my inverter in order to change certain values.
there is a usb port on the inverter and the owners manual states the driver for ch341t need to be installed to communicate with the inverter.
my level of computer literacy is so low I cannot find my way thru the info I find online regarding ch341t.
I've done what I could to "activate"/install ch341 onto my Linux machine but my understanding is it's already installed. yet when I connect the inverter to my laptop with usb I cannot seem to find the thing, although it is there when I type in "lsusb" in the terminal.
what's next?
