Process Lasso for Android

Based on the way my phone behaves it seems like Android could use a version of Process Lasso too.  Is it possible and might it happen?  :)

Hotrod

I agree... mine needs it too, but as it would probably take a complete redesign, I doubt it will happen.

Not into the way these phones actually work, but I could see the potential for a software like PL to be *very* useful on multitasking mobile phones. Of course, depending on what's at all possible for their OS! Considering how much money [some] ppl are able to make on apps, a great new opportunity for you to consider, Jeremy? :)

Maybe I am mistaken as I don't have any kind of smart phone but can you multi-task on a phone ?
I thought you bring up a app and that is the focus, so IMO they probably do this already, prioritize focused app threads .

The user doesn't multitask, but the phone does.  For instance, when I first re-enable the mobile network in the morning (I turn it off at night to save battery) multiple processes spring to life connecting, syncing, updating, etc.  The phone goes into a coma for ten or fifteen seconds until things settle down.  It's also really noticeable after installing an app and the AV jumps in to scan it.  Process Lasso for Android is needed to keep all these cpu hogging processes in line.

I have actually been considering this ever since Android became popular. HOWEVER, due to the design of Android, there are certain limitations that prohibit Process Lasso's ProBalance as we know it, and the OS largely is designed to take care of wayward background applications itself, as others alluded to here.

There is an App Monitor widget that many of you probably have seen, or do see. If you watch it, you'll notice that any background apps that are running only do so for a short time under normal circumstances before they go into a sleep state. If it were traditional linux, I could do something for sure, but it's not.

I am working hard here to get v6 together before I'm mobbed or stoned to death, so I will make this short:

From my research *so far*, the main issue is normally I/O on Android phones, believe it or not. I've found this is why and where the stalls, lags, and such occur in *most* cases.

Security products for Android, as useful or useless as they may be [one article I saw claimed they are at present nearly useless, but I don't recall where I saw that], have the same issue as PC security suites. They have to do their darn scanning, and there's nothing that can be done (outside of their development) to speed this up.
