Does PL actually improve performance in Win8?

I purchased Process Lasso Pro to tame those #%$@!*!!!! svchost.exe files in vista.  And it also did a better job of seeing what is going on than Task Manager.  So I am pleased with Process Lasso Pro.

I ordered a haswell i7 Win8 box and it will be delivered shortly.  The sales guy said don’t install Process Lasso Pro.  He said this box will be so fast that I do not need it and Process Lasso Pro could slow the box down.

I assume Process Lasso Pro has been tested on win8 to improve, not slow performance.  So to word some questions accurately to address this challenge to Process Lasso Pro:
Has there been any situation where Process Lasso Pro has slowed the performance of really fast win8 boxes?
Is there any situation or settings or configuration of Process Lasso Pro that I should avoid that will slow performance of my win8 box?

Just some background use.  I run my boxes always in user (limited permissions) account.  I run Process Lasso Pro with administrator permissions and settings so it can tame all running processes.  I have had blessed success with that!  I do not do any more with Process Lasso Pro settings.  I intend to use Process Lasso Pro the same way in win8.  (I do not know anything about win8 so wish me good luck)

Thank you for your help.

To lighten your concerns: Process Lasso is not a speedup-like application. It's a process optimization and automation tool. What does it mean? It means that you need Process Lasso when you:

  • execute many tasks "in parallel", that is, require your workstation to remain responsive all the time
  • want to apply specific power settings under defined circumstances (I mean, power profile switching features)
  • restrict usage of some processes (disallowed processes or limiting instances)
  • avoid memory overload, if one resident process is about to eat more and more RAM because of a memory leak (again, it's about keeping machine responsive)
  • optimize games and multimedia processes by adjusting advanced scheduler/multimedia class settings OR within Gaming mode
  • own a portable computer and want its battery not to "die" too early (Energy Saver feature decreasing hardware tear)

As you can see above, it's not about increasing FPS. It's up to you what you are about to do on that fast box.
My conclusion is: if you want a robust machine to do many things at the same time, then Process Lasso is for you. It will keep your computer responsive.  Not necessarily faster, but responsive. If you want just and only for gaming, Process Lasso is not necessary. It's my humble opinion. Wait for others'.

Thank you for your kind and fast response.  I realized I did not write my usage of my computer.  I am not a gamer.  I do not play games.  Because of my impulsive and short attention I like to have many applications running at once and switching all between them.  I have so many windows open I get lost but it is how I do things.  It really slows vista.  Looking forward to haswell to speed up my wonderful chaos.
So it appears I should continue with my current settings and usage of Process Lasso Pro on the new win8 box.  Is this correct?
Is there anything else I should do with settings or usage of Process Lasso Pro on win8 with my current computer usage I described?
Thank you for the help.

I can't say how about Windows 8, because I have no way to test it, but I work in Windows 7 the similar way you do, and I needn't change any settings - so I utilize defaults served by Bitsum.

I think it "can", for keeping the rendering time of every frame are the same(A.K.A Smooth, if the game engine can get at least 60FPS stable), as it(the rendering/processing of game engine) don't affect by background process as PL is restraint the background process.

For simple, it can prevent other software come up and bite the foreground suddenly, like you are scrolling the browser(IE10, as it is the smoothest "scrolling browser" that I see ;D), you feel/saw a suddenly lag for scrolling, when you look at the CPU usage, you will found a background process is having some strange CPU usage at that time, then you will know at that time, the background process is biting the CPU without let it used by other process, until it is processed finish.

PL can prevent this happen by restraint that background process, and you can keep scrolling the browser smoothly. ;D

Energy Saver, you can using it to keep your computer cool and quiet too, as you are not using the computer, why you need to hearing the fan sound running like Sonic? ;)

You can just ignore the thing that I just type before your post and just reading here. :)

It depend, but Default setting+Administrator permission is fine for most user and windows.

And I hope you also buy a SSD as your system drive, and install most of the software at SSD, then you will know what's the meaning of smooth! ;)

QuoteProcess Lasso Pro could slow the box down.
With likely 0.01-0.03% CPU usage on your computer, lol. ;D

I can say it don't has issues for performance, except the Metro UI. :)

Thank you hanemach_gt and BenYeeHua for your fast and kind responses.

"so I utilize defaults served by Bitsum."
“It depend, but Default setting+Administrator permission is fine for most user and windows.”
It seems I stick with the current settings and usage of Process Lasso Pro for my win8 box.  That seems to be the best for now.  If I run into any problems I will post here.

BenYeeHua, you reminded me of the browser scroll lag.  I hope hazwell i7 and Process Lasso Pro will stop this from happening.

BenYeeHua, the link does not work.  “You can just ignore the thing that I just type before your post and just reading here.”  The link “here” does not go anywhere.  It is just text.  I really, really want to read that article or post you intended to direct me to.  Please post that link again.

Once again thank you for your help.

Sorry for my bad English, again. :)
I means read the words that I type after the "----" line.
For the words before that line, that is what I type before you are telling me that you are not a gamer, but a multitasker.  ;)

Not best, but better than without using Process Lasso, some old computer need more tweak for the ProBalance, some people tweak the Energy Saver to cool down the computer, for slowing down the "Sonic" fans, some people using watchdog for restart the processes that having some issues, but they can't stop using it.
The best setting will come out after you tweak it, as everyone has a difference computer. :)

If you has some time, backup your config, and playing with the setting by reading the doc here.

This is the main engine, ProBalance.

Doc about Process Lasso, you can find each setting can do what for you.

Best setting will only exist after you tweak yourself. ;)

I can say that this issues is Browser issues, most jobs is putting on the main thread and blocking JS engine and the rendering engine(or UI engine), that why you can see scroll lag.
I think the Rank is
IE11>IE10>Google Chrome>Firefox
And Google Chrome has fixed some of it, but the hang of the plugin will also causing scroll lag.

For Firefox, I think OMTC can fix this.

BenYeeHua, ever since I had Process Lasso I did not know how to tweak it.  You gave me a number of suggestions and direction to get me started.  Thank you.

My browser is Firefox.  You gave me suggestion and direction to tweak it.  Thank you again.

When I get my win8 box going I will past back my progress when I start tweaking Process Lasso.

Thank you for your persistent help.

BenYeeHua

I also don't know how to tweak it, until I find some information, learning about it and try. ;)

If I remember right, Firefox Nightly has enable OMTC in Metro, you can install Nightly and try it out.

Bug 866852 - Turn OMTC on by default in metrofx
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=866852

I think it will be a few month for it to enable the OMTC on Firefox desktop, as they don't finish the code yet.
