Hi there,
Specs, (Win10 Fall Creators now), bit of history.

The default power profiles for processes gone AWOL!
In actual fact, everything was running well, along with the VS2017 power profiles, until launching TES4 Oblivion. When it crashes, attempting to debug it gets an always-on-top black screen which cannot be removed. When choosing the other option of closing it, we might assume some corruption? of video functionality/memory occurs even though there is no obvious or tell tale signals in the post-crash OS session.
Other than the unrecoverable black screen w. mouse wake up after hibernation where there is this message in the logs:
QuoteEvt 4101: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
But it doesn't- or at least the OS doesn't. A little off-piste from the normal W10 shutdown where a hard reset is mandatory- along with other messed up desktop/application settings.
But it's a mystery as to what happened to the Process Lasso app profiles. Is it possible they can be backed up somewhere else in registry?
Thanks for reading!

Hi, I am not familiar with VS power profiles but let's go through the rest of your post.
With regard to the game, I would set that to High-performance process mode (was called game mode), this is setup more for games. So don't ever use both on same process (app power profiles+ HP process mode).
Your crash is Nvidia driver resetting, could be the driver, could be the app.
All your user settings are stored by default here "C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\ProcessLasso\config
So you can save your profile as another, use menu>File>Profile>Manage Lasso profiles. There you can manage them and make a backup easy.

Hi @edkiefer,
Yes, thanks, that quoted thread was regarding the use of VS in a power profile was only mentioned for the purpose of background info.
Regarding the NVIDIA issue, I've posted at their forum- thought it worth mentioning here just in case it might have been responsible for a HDD meltdown here that also affected PL settings. But, things never get as interesting as that do they?
...
There has been a development regarding the mystery behind the disappearing power profiles. The annual license for PL had expired- it was actually a free license given in 2014, but there was no indication it was an annual in the email- in hindsight I should have checked it out in any case. PM'd sales just in case there is no misunderstanding, and they intended a perennial license as a gift.  ;)
Nevertheless, the the power profile executables list has been nuked- fortunately there weren't too many- but then I am not sure what other settings might have changed when an update was downloaded and installed after the license had expired. The power plans are still being handled as they were configured years ago, so it may not be all doom & gloom!  :D

Just so I understand, are we talking the lose of Bitsum HP power plan or you set app xx to a power plan and that list is empty now.

With Bitsum power plan, I never have seen that happen, but running the install again "should" fix it.
With if it is App power plan list, see if your default ini config file is there and if it shows the data.
You can also check default ini by going to menu>File>Manually edit the configuration file.

The only other thing, did you change configuration file location?
Maybe it went back to the default location and then you would have a default ini (all user settings removed).
That is all I can think of that could go wrong other than some data corruption in which case could mess up many things.

No, it's just the "app xx to a power plan".
It had a few programs in the list, including the above mentioned Visual Studio & Oblivion. The only file is prolasso.ini which now includes these settings just added:
Quote[GamingMode]
GamingModeEnabled=false
GamingChangePowerPlan=true
GamingModeEngageForSteam=true
AutomaticGamingModeProcessPaths=i:\games\oblivion\oblivion.exe,c:\program files\3dmark\bin\x64\3dmark.exe
[ProcessDefaults]
DefaultPowerSchemes=c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio\2017\community\common7\ide\devenv.exe;balanced,i:\games\oblivion\obse_loader.exe;high performance,i:\games\oblivion\oblivion.exe;high performance
The DefaultPowerSchemes section got deleted somehow but the gaming mode section was not. Weird. However, cannot locate the gaming mode menu item in the gui.
We can definitely rule out the license expiration as being responsible for any ini changes then?

Ok, that is weird that only a partial part of the data got lost.
Sorry for the confusion, the "game mode" was renamed to High-Performance mode, which can be set by either right clicking on the process an enabling "Classify as a High-Performance process" or in options menu add a process in Performance mode settings.

Thanks for the clarification. :)
And the note from Jeremy came in as well:
QuoteFree licenses are annual licenses, yes. No obligation to renew or pay is present, but they aren't lifetime.
